Hat tip to Dave Osler for relaying the news that our new General Secretary ( the Blairite one the unions shoe-horned in from a shortlist of one) has brought Derek Draper back from the outer darkness to advise Labour how to win the next election. Apparently, it's on a voluntary basis. It would have to be , as the Party has just had to cancel its Spring Conference and has no money.
Nevertheless, the notion that a former aide of Mandelson, and one who used to boast about how much money he earned, has the political answers is very depressing. I hope the trade union leaders who made sure right-winger Ray Collins got the General Secretary job are pleased with what is clearly another great strategical decision.
Would it not have been a rather better idea to listen to what the ordinary members are saying for a change?
