LRC GETS SET FOR NEW YEAR CAMPAIGNING

Last night I headed off to Leeds to meet more people from West Yorkshire who are interested in joining the LRC. So we now have links in Huddersfield CLP ( home of Blairite Barry Sheerman) and several more constituencies in Leeds as well as Wakefield, Halifax and Calder Valley It was agreed we would meet again in January with a view to organising a campaigning event in February. We now have a broad spread of ages and views but it's clear the enthusiasm really is there on the ground. Which is good news for anyone who is sick and tired of the New Labour agenda.
Meanwhile, LRC Chair John McDonnell has tabled a timely EDM on tax avoidance.

Don't let your MP off the Christmas hook. Lobby them to add support........

Good news re: the LRC. I plan on writing a 'reasons to be cheerful' post on the left at the end of the year, and I think the progress LRC has made, despite the outcome of the John4Leader campaign, is one of them.

Imo,One of the things the LRC must do is challenge the union tops and the buracracy which often holds workers opposition back. In a piece in Fridays CIF, John Monks quite rightly attacks 'social dumping and the race to the bottom, then appears to support the EU's endorsement of 'active welfare' which basically means welfare cuts, workfare and constant harassment of claimants, such as in Germany with the 'one euro' job (brought in under the hated Harz Laws) and soon in the Uk where we will see even disabled people forced into the labour market and continually harassed by private recruitment companies,

The TUC and its European counterpart often criticise the 'two tier' workforce' well, 'active welfare' is creating a new one to be scapegoated by all concerned.

The LRC should go back to basics, fighting inequality, the welfare reforms, poverty, housing, etc. it may not get them too many votes, but imo, its the right thing to do.

Susan: can you assure me that the LRC will challenge Bob Wareing MP's well-publicised homophobia??
