REFERENDUM CALLS WON'T GO AWAY

Stalinism continues to rule at Number 10. Having had a General Election called off at the last minute, we have now signed up to an EU treaty on which we were promised a referendum. Having been told by a Westminster Scrutiny Committee that the just-signed document was extremely similar to the previous constitution thrown out by France and Denmark, Gordon cracks open the champagne and blithely comments. “It is now time for Europe to move on and devote all our efforts to the issues that matter to the people of Europe - economic growth, jobs, climate change and security,” Oh please, change the bloody record, The "issues that matter to people" are transparency, honesty, and keeping your promises.Oh, and being allowed to vote occasionally. On this issue, David Cameron is I'm afraid right. Brown is "treating people like fools" and the referendum issue will return to haunt him in January when it's debated in Parliament.

WE MUST HAVE A REFERENDUM

Now the General Election is off there will be renewed calls for a referendum on the new EU treaty.More embarrassment for the Government is in the offing after the House of Commons European scrutiny committee said it was "likely to be misleading" for the government to claim that the treaty no longer had the characteristics of a constitution.
And it warned that the special opt-outs and protocols secured by the government to protect its so-called "red lines" may not prove effective in practice.Let's stop the pretence and give the people what they want - the promised chance to decide.

BACKING FOR REFERENDUM CALL.....

As expected, the TUC today backed a GMB motion calling for a referendum on the new EU treaty and urging Ministers to drop the opt-out on the charter of fundamental rights. This will a) fulfil Labour's 2005 election pledge and b) give workers more rights
