Interesting discussion going on over at Dave Osler on that old chestnut as to whether what's Left in Labour should jump ship and go and form the People's Socialist Coalition, or whatever, along the lines advocated by RMT leader Bob Crow. No disresepect to Bob, but he's got it utterly wrong here. Tell me, just how much electoral success have the Socialist Alliance, the Socialist Labour Party (Arthur Scargill) , Socialist Party (Peter Taaffe) or even RESPECT actually had in the past 10 years since Blair came to power. The answer, very little. Yes, the Labour Left is sidelined at the moment. It will be a damn sight more sidelined if we all join hands and jump over the cliff in a quest for a "new workers party." Can I just point out that two left MPs in my area, Linda Riordan and Mike Wood, were elected in 1997 and 2005 respectively. Now Blair is gone, we have to pull our fingers out and start REALLY re-claiming the Party. Not finally abandoning it to the right.

People need look no further back than the split of Militant, leading to Taaffe and his followers forming the Socialist Party. From 10,000s of members to the handful in the SP today
Comrades need to stay in the party and fight to reclaim it, not give up the ghost and form yet another new party.
