NORTHERN ROCK MUST BE NATIONALISED..

Strange old world when the Liberal Democrats are calling for nationalisation but there you have it. The view is one also shared by rabid "lefties" like Will Hutton. But it's clear Brown's stubborn attitude and ideological opposition to anything remotely " socialist" will resist this one all the way. Would be good to see Jon Trickett putting his money where his mouth is and joining in a Labour campaign for what is basically a common sense solution to safeguard taxpayers. With Brown hitting all-time lows in the personal ratings, you would think he would listen to reason....as Darling is just his puppet, highly unlikely.

Yes, the contrast between the bail out of N/R and the victorian offer of the govt iniating a chairty for those who lost out(and are according to Unison now in more debt) through the Farepak debacle is so transparent. This govt sinks to new lows daily.

Btw, Susan, I'm just wondering why you have never blogged about the Gov't's brutal welfare reforms: such as todays announcement by 'Hardman Hain' of a new test for
disabled benefit claimants so as to 'end the sicknote culture'. Talk about picking on the weakest, the thing is, time was when some left labour M.P's would speak out on this, seemingly not know.

1 in 5 in Merthyr are on the sick

why because they have no jobs in Merthy is just another way of paying the dole and keeping the numbers down

As socialists we need to be fighting for jobs

In my experience good socialists and trade unionists have always taken a professional attitude to work and always worked to try and keep sick rates down

we need to fight for real jobs not prop up a rotten benefits culture which helps no one

as for nationalisation of Northern Rock, we should nationalise profitable companies not failling companies
