RESPECT - THE FINAL CURTAIN

Showing my age yet again, I was reminded yesterday ( as I was in the area) of a Manchester demo organised in 1978 in Whitworth Park by the Youth Campaign Against Unemployment. YCAU. This Militant-led initiative was distinct from the, er, CAYU - the Campaign Against Youth Unemployment. Which was supported by the TUC.

So here we are again 30 years later seemingly making the same kinds of mistakes. On Saturday November 17, for example, there are now three competing left conferences. The LRC, the official RESPECT conference, and apparently a breakaway conference organised by their former icon George Galloway. You really couldn't make it up..
We all know the jokes about the People's Front Of Judea, but seriously my hope is this in the long-term will be a boost for the left IN the Labour Party.
Because what little credibility RESPECT, Galloway and the SWP had has been shot down in flames. Their always dodgy marriage of political convenience has ended in the usal tears and recriminations.
My message to anyone understandably pissed off with the latest sectarian shenanigans is to come and join us at the Conway Hall. More details here
UPDATE: Sorry, there are apparently FOUR conferences. The other one is the Socialist Party, But my analysis still stands. Well, all the more so, really.

Susan ,there are actually four events that weekend, I believe. Dont forget the Socialist Party and their Socialism 07 on the same weekend.

The LRC is surely a horse of a different colour? No trots at that one.
