Forgive me for getting over yesterday so quickly but spirits lifted after today when I went on a May Day march in Leeds and then drinks with new friends and comrades on the Left. Maybe it was when Jeremy Corbyn MP said he had to leave as he was doing TV interviews re the state of the Party that I thought, yes, New Labour is dead. Not quite buried, not quite cremated, but definitely on the way out. Suddenly, the Left is news again. We have a major oppportunity now. When was the last time the media were seriously interested in anyone other than Blairites and Brownites ??? As we stare disaster in the face now is the time for the Labour Left to rally, build and get the message across it doesn't have to be this way. Our Real Labour policies could turn the picture round very very fast. Paradoxically, New Labour's death could herald the rebirth of Labour. As the rats leave the sinking New Labour ship. we have a serious opportunity to grasp victory from the jaws of defeat

Here's hoping.
I hope so. I've never known a proper Labour Party...I can't wait! It'll take MPs a bit of getting used to though, won't it? Let's just hope they get their act together in the next 2 years...
Thats the problem none of us who are in our 50's can remember a real Labour party either, but I do remember a dam strong back bench, if the front bench slipped up in say something like tax, the back bench would moan and you could see the PM thinking shit.
Now the back bench does nothing it sits and hopes it will go away
never mind the MPs John- its us who need to get active. Show our communities what real Labour values are. Im the person who just lost in Calder ward, dspite acheiving a 8% swing to Labour -based as Sue has said on real Labour values at the heart of our community. Lets get busy!
The Labour party hasn't been a party of the workers for decades.
It is the party of big business, privatisation and public sector cuts, with no chance of this changing. And the sooner you and John McDonnell acknowledge this and move on, the better. Then we can really start to talk about building a workers' party based on a true socialist programme, rather than the 'crumbs from the table' socialism of Labour.
