Had call earlier tonight from friend who with thousands more had braved sub-zero temperatures in London to make the Gaza protest outside the Israeli Embassy. Well done to all the thousands who are protesting all over the country. Tomorrow night at 5pm we are doing out bit here in Hebden at 5pm at the traffic lights in the centre of town. I will be there. Bring a candle....

Well done, Susan, I assume by "Gaza protest" you mean a protest against the fact that Hamas has fired some 6,000 un-aimed rockets into Israel over the last 3 years and unilaterally broke a cease fire?
There simply isn't any excuse for the Israeli behaviour, no matter whether one thinks hamas a good representative of the Palestinians or not.
Six thousand seems like a slightly rounded-up figure there David? Could you provide us with a couple of verifiable links to back up those statistical claims?
Because more uncharitable people than I might think you're just lobbing bogus statistics in there as a shit-stirring tactic to defend the powerful against the powerless?
Not that I would of course. I'm sure your sources are unimpeachable. As are the statistics about numbers of civilian Palestinian deaths against numbers of Israeli ones over this same period. I have confidence in your ability to provide some sources on those too. Got any? It would help us have a fruitful, informed discussion after all.
Over to you mate.
Quite right,'E10', I never trust neatly rounded stats, either. I heard the figure quoted twice on different bulletins but (with little time just at the moment) all I could find on Google was this:

The second commenter 'Dark Al' *appears* to know where-of he speaks. Whatever the exact figure, I think we can accept that a fairly hefty load of missiles have been fired ever since Hamas took over.
I should make clear that I couldn't care less who is right and who is wrong in this dispute. I only care that Israel is the enemy of my enemy which makes it my friend - for the time being! As Palmerston (I think) put it, 'There are no eternal friendships, only eternal interests!' The sight and sound of sundry "useful idiots" (a small minority of whom are downright malignant) jumping up and down and claiming that all the faults are on one side merely provides me with a slight smile at yet another exampe, of human folly.
