KEITH VAZ AND THE LETTER

Anyone seriously surprised that the 42 days vote was won by Tammany Hall-style backroom dealing? We know the DUP were bought off , that MP after MP was bribed, cajoled and bullied into toeing the line. That , let's face it, is how Brown became Leader without a contest. And people wonder why Labour is doing so badly?
The electorate is not stupid. The electorate has had enough. At what price did Brown win that 42 days vote? One which may bring him down in the next few months.

The electorate are not stupid, well they do not care, do you think people are saying my god I knew it, what they are saying is how much is bread this week, how much is milk, how do we pay the fuel bill.

I'm interested because I have been in Labour or in a Union , carried out the duties of a shop steward, but other people are more interested in the cost of food then Brown or Vaz taking a bribe we expect it after Thatcher.

conspiracy conspiracy

of course whips use everything they can

Vaz is going nowhere (if he gets promotion I am sure you will post)

if Vaz is that gullable...well...

People dont care about 42 days anyone heard of David Davis by election .....

They do care about pay, and prices

Regular attacks on our Party simply allow the Class to say no difference between Labour and Tories and soften them up for what will be an ultra right wing Tory governmnet

By all means lets attack the Party on key issues, but not every day and what about having a go at the Tories, even the Times editorial did this week

Actually, liberal-minded voters who would normally be more likely to vote Labour do care about 42 days.

Labour need their votes alongside the core working class vote. Otherwise, no majority. They are certainly more reliable than the White Van men!

I will leave you activist get on with it, best of luck.

I think the House of Lords is probably the best place for Keith Vaz.

I can think of a more suitable place for him ...

poll after poll says the public support 42 days

and dna data bases more cctv

Its called old Labour

oh yes when we got working class votes

"Anonymous" (how apt) these polls aren't based on reality e.g. the likelihood of false DNA matches. They're based on the headlines of (e.g.) the Sun. Obviously a foundation of a well informed view...

The fact is working class people are more likely to support things like 42 days detention, although it's not a priority for them. in case you forgot we lost the working class vote during the 80s when we had things like unilateral nuclear disarmament as our policy. The liberal middle classes loved us, they could "say" they voted Labour while reaping the benefits of Tory tax cuts.I'm sure that'll happen again.

Most voters couldn't give a monkeys about 42 days

Sorry this has nothing to do with this thread. I read in the Guardian about the movement of Neoliberal Social democrats (ring a bell) to a more progressive state driven social democracy (i.e the renationalisation of the NZ railway). The author of the piece believes NZ might be a sort of weather cock to how politics might progress here, I just wondered what your thought were on the matter.

Lke many, I ttink there is now a opening for a return to basic social democratic/dem soc/socialist policies/values:, renationalising the railways, doing something about the P.Offices, maybe making them community run, etc, ending PFI, a massive public housing programme, ending pensioner poverty, etc, would be popular as well as the right thing to do.Neo-liberalism is finished, (though all the main parties still support it!)

sadly, where is this impetus going to come from?, NL are wedded to a neo-liberal ideology and number of
careers have been built on it

We might have to send the army to New Zealand , Labour cannot accept anyone doing socialism these days.

Merseymike said...

Yes, but, anonymous, labour is currently managing to win neither the working class core of the middle class liberal vote - why should they support an authoritarian labour party?

Anonymous said...

Yes the New Zealand Labour Party have done very well and renationalisation is great.

they even got rid of their New Labour elements (after a spell in government)

A left split at the time came to nothing......that sounds familiar

however NZ Labour are well behind in the Polls and National on the rise

so any government after 10 years would be facing upheld struggle

I'm against 43 days, but why would the DUP, who supported internment, be?
