LET'S GET TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ

Today's Independent reports that Gordon Brown is planning a joint initiative with Barack Obama to get the troops out of Iraq in the next 16 months. Let's hope so. I would like to see it sooner - but at least if there is a timetable there is some hope of light at the end of this very dark tunnel.
One of the candidates yesterday spoke of her "heartbreak" at what the Iraq issue had done to the Labour Party. Like many others in the room, I was with her on that march with two million others in February 2003. The one which the Government tragically ignored.
Five years on, I think we would all now agree this illegal and unnecessary war has riven the Party asunder and cost us thousands of members. But let's reserve our sorrow for those whose lives continue to be blown apart on a daily basis by the needless death and suffering. And let's get the troops home ASAP.

Glasgow election the new welfare reforms leaked so how about counter that with get the troops out, yet not long go Blair sorry Rrown and Bush stated we will get more troops. I do not believe Brown at all he is a lier and what happens if Obama does not win which is highly likely.

I'm worried that the very reasons that lead our party to fight this war - a fight against fascists who destroyed the lived of liberals, democrats and socialists - remain as important principles.

Would you like Iraq to descend into chaos, anarchy and sectarianism, Susan? If so, is thet terribly socialist of you?

Surely, whatever your view on the War itself, we should stay to defend our comrades? Or is that sort of solidarity altogether too complicated?

I'd very much like to know, as a comrade, what you think on this. Maybe you should talk to Labour Friends of Iraq and see what they have to say?

As you know Ben, the prime reason for this wat was allegedly the fact we faced a threat from Saddam Hussein and WMDs. It was not porrayed as" a fight against fascism."
Whats more, it was illegal and has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.Maybe you should talk to the Iraqis and see what THEY have to say about the military assualt and violation of Iraq which has led their country into bitter bloodhshed and anarchy.
