I've a great respect for John McDonnell, but in a day when even Hazel Blears has realised that rocking the boat isn't going to win you friends in the Labour Party, it's a very odd time to threaten the party leader.
If we have any chance at all of getting out of this mess - we have to stick behind Gordon Brown and present a united party to the electorate. Otherwise the blame for the next Tory government will fall on the LRC as well as the Blairites.
It's not about "threatening the Leader". It's about the Leader realising that unless he starts to listen ( as he said he would do at the PLP meeting on Monday) and come up with policies that change Labour's fortunes - which we can all get behind - then Labour will continue to sleepwalk to a Tory Government. For which no-one could blame the LRC - or any challenger. So let's hope Brown does listen to the many voices in the PLP who do want to see things turned around on POLICY, not personal vendettas - which is what the Blairite attempted coup was about
Why do you think that Brown is more likely to come up with left-wing policies than Blair? It is Brown above all others who worshipped the City and promoted market economics.
Unfortunately, Brown isn't an appealing character for many voters, whether that happens to be something we agree with or not. I don't find him personally inspiring in the least but then that's not important to me - but it is to many others.
