There is a sensible piece by Dianne Abbott in today's Guardian urging Gordon Brown to stay. My guess is whether he goes or stays now depends not on a bunch of unmourned Blairites but the results of the Euro elections. If he stays, it could well be the case that things can't get much worse. If he chooses to resign, we have a duty as Labour Party members to ensure there is a contest for the leadership. The Blairites have behaved with such despicable disloyalty because they want to instal Alan Johnson, get their jobs back in the Cabinet, and clone another generation of New Labour Ministers. This is untenable in the eyes of the electorate and the Party. I'm absolutely delighted Blears and Purnell have shown themselves for what they are.Let's not allow their vile little plot to succeed. And let's work together - minus the Blairite cabal - to turn this Party round. Whatever happens......

Portraying Alan Johnson as an identikit Blairite is a mistake. I think he is much more of a social democrat
