PRISONS MINISTER SHOULD BE LOCKED UP!

Where do they get them from? Just watched Prisons Minister David Hanson MP ( never heard of him before) squirming and squealing on Channel 4 News. Put on the spot, he absolutely failed to convince - and sounded just like a Tory defending the twin indefensibles of low pay and bad working conditions. Some interesting statistics which i didn't know. And which help explain why the POA is on the picket line for the first time ever. Since New Labour came to power, prison officers have faced something like 10 times more violent incidents and there are thousands more inmates locked up in increasingly overcrowded prisons - to what avail? This Govt is tough on crime alright, but what about its causes? hace any of these measures actuaklly reduced the incidence of crime? The POA is clearly determined to see this one through. Looks like your honeymoon is over, Gordon.
9PM UPDATE: Strike now over with fresh talks with Govt tabled for Friday. 90 per cent support reported!
