UNITED WE STAND - IN OPPOSITION TO NEW LABOUR

This afternoon I received the (more or less) final timetable for the Convention Of The Left event taking place in Manchester from September 20 -24 ie at the same times as the Labour Party Conference. The LRC is taking part in several seminars and it will all be kicked off at 3pm on Saturday September 20 by John McDonnell MP and Tony Benn. Venue is the Friends Meeting House -only yards from the LP Conference hall at G-Mex.
Unlike the bigger event, there will be no ring of steel . And admission is free ( donations welcome) .Those of us involved in the logistics of bringing together various left groups both inside and outside the Labour Party are currently wracking our brains for a common theme or "line to take" in the common vernacular.
I am still pondering this one but it may well turn out to be about the fact that the issues which unite us on the left are far more than those which divide us. Peace not war, people not profit, .......anyway, the timetable is worth a look on the COL website

One thung is sure anonymous - if New Labour carries on in charge then we WILL be in opposition - for a very long time. And that won't be the fault of anyone on the left because Brown disenfranchised us from Day 1

My MP has just stated and put in writing that she is an old fashioned Labour left MP, it's on the Labour party web site, I nearly died laughing.

To date she voted for the first round of detention, she voted for ID cards, she voted for Trident, then she voted for 42 days. She backed new Labour and Blair in the Iraq war, she is for the welfare reforms, she is for throwing people out of council housing if they do not work.

But she is a left leaning MP, then of course I realized she cannot tell left from right.

E by Gum tis a great new world.

Its the Blairites who got us into this mess

now they are trying to force a crisis so they can walk away

Brown would have been replaced next year anyway the TUs would never have allowed it to go on

The problem is i dont think has enough votes to win and he is still not going to make head way in some unions because he has backed political groupings in those unions who have only minority electorial support

the truth is even Dunwoody would have opposed thes blairites and even Brown and she was very much like Hattersley on the right of centre

We will have an election and I would imagine Johnson will win (not my choice)

but will anyone rally him on the left ??? after a democratic Party election ???

the road will be long and hard but they have done it in New Zealand long after the split groups had ended in disaster

could always have a leader like Ms Reeves on both slates for NEC while backed by John Spellar MP

Or we could not bother stay at home and leave labour to it, which is what I intend doing, I've retired due to ill health.

John's campaign will have to be broader

winning support of the SWP is not going to get Labour supporters in my union to vote for him
