CHEAP AT A PRICE

There are women I know of the "shop till you drop" tendency who think Primark is marvellous. And so it seems if you want cheap fashionable clothes and don't have a lot of money. But we all know the real cost is paid by the workers who supply the togs now selling at ludicrously low prices ie stuff in primark now costs less than I remember paying as a very image-conscious teenager in the 1970's.

Today no real surprise as the Guardian reveals that workers in the sweatshops which supply places like Primark, Gap and Matalan get paid as little as 13 pence an hour for a 48 hour week - and are regularly forced to work overtime of between six and 18 hours per week. Boycotting these shops will do little to help those currently being exploited so hideously. Putting pressure on the Govt and the retailers just might. In the meantime, check out retailers like Marks and Spencer whose "Look Bhind The Label" range is in the FTSE top 20 of ethical companies.
