SPOILER CAMPAIGNS ONLY HELP THE TORIES

Our "friend in the south" Luke Akehurst has (just for a change) been having a go at the LRC and alleging that certain individuals within it are apparently backing Lindsey German for London Mayor.
I very much doubt that as such behaviour would of course guarantee immediate expulsion from the Labour Party. Which of course is what Comrade Akehurst would love to see happening to everyone in the LRC. But let's not get him too excited.....
Actually, nothing infuriates me more than when the SWP/RESPECT or indeed any ultra-left groups stage no-hope electoral campaigns which can only help the Tories. And this is one such campaign. God knows, I'm no big fan of Ken Livingstone. But it's a no-brainer that he's better for London than Boris Johnson and that voting for anyone else can only aid the Conservatives' bid to oust him. I'm also, frankly, disappointed to see UNISON's Michael Gavan on the Left List. Given the support he has had from Labour MPs like John McDonnell then I would have thought a bit of solidarity with Labour's Left was in order. But it's way out of my political territory and there may be good reasons for that. What's clear is there is a significant danger Ken might lose - so forget the token gestures and vote for him.

"Spoiler?"given the second preference vote for mayor, it's hard to spoil Livingstone's chances through fielding a candidate to the left.

When Lindsey German called for transfers to Ken in the LSE SU hustings last Thursday, the tory went a bit heart-attack, calling the event a left wing stitch up. Everyone knows it's going to the second preferences, and Respect - Left list cannot endanger Livingstone this way (FPTP counts the biggest number of votes for any candidate and calls that person the winner, the London Mayor election insists someone gets 50%+ of first or second preferences).

The biggest threat to ken losing his post is the fact he rejoined Labour and he can't adequately distance himself from Blair, Brown and the rest of the leadership.

Typical - you've got completely the wrong end of the stick. I already explained that it was the postman supporting Lindsey German, and argued that Labour Party members - including LRC members - should vet their domestic servants more carefully to ensure allegiance to the cause.

Kenny experience from previous mayoral elections is that even if the candidate indicates a second preference, not all his or her voters use it. Many will just use their first preference, (or may use it to second preference Sian Berry or Brian Paddick which would literally be a wasted vote)

Thanks for clarifying - I said it was out of my terrirory ! However I still think the Lindsey German candidature won't be helpful......

Of course every vote for German is one less for Ken and one more for Boris

This is simply about the SWP trying to pretend George Galloway never happended "The lost weekend"

German standing will stack up a few votes, all of which will count as anti Ken votes by the returning officer

This is no different to the early socialist party the SDF taking money from the Tories to help defeat the Liberals

wait a minute.....the Swp/respect did take money recently from big business (PFI companies)
