JUNIOR MINISTER TO RESIGN OVER 10PENCE TAX ISSUE


Breaking nnews from Channel 4 that Junior Minister Angela Smith is to resign from her job as a PPS at theTeasury over the 10pence tax issue. Could this be Brown's poll tax??

I would like to see some M.P's resign over the Govts dreadful welfare reforms. Today, disabled people from all over thre UK occupied the DWP head office. Purnell wasn'there he is in the US, suprise, picking up even more tips for Us style welfare. They have been given a meeting with him in
may.

Disgracefully, no media coverage of none as yet, even on left blogs. The media clearly has an agenda ahere, trying to maintain there is no opposition to this, well there is!

shes not resigning either

I am against the cutting of the 10p tax

but if she didnt like it she should have resigned last year when it was announced

Success for DAN at the DWP protest, perhaps John Mcdonnell could attend this meeting with Purnell as he had a EDM about the reforms with 27 M.P's signing? This should be a flagship issue for the LRC, it includes welfare cuts, privatisation, harrassment of the most vulnerable, neo-liberal ideology, etc.

D.A.N Action Report - 17th April 2008.

Today more than twenty disabled activists occupied the foyer of AdelphiHouse, where the Department of Work and Pensions is based. At 1.30 p.m. campaigners breezed in, taking over the foyer, leafleting and asking to hand deliver a letter to James Purnell, Secretary of State for the Department of
Work and Pensions. Members of D.A.N. the Disabled people's Direct Action Network refused to leave until a meeting was arranged with James Purnell to discuss Incapacity Benefit and the changes which are forcing one million
disabled people into poverty and unpaid work placements. James Purnell was out of the country, so D.A.N. activists met with representatives from the
DWP and Sally Witcher from the Office for Disability Issues and held long discussions.

The result of these discussions is, D.A.N. have been promised a meeting
with James Purnell, the date of which is to be confirmed. We are very confident that the meeting will happen as we have promised to come back for another visit if it doesn't.
