LET'S TELL IT LIKE IT IS.....

While I have been nursing a hangover ( no I don't spend my life in an alcoholic stupor but mix with lefties who like a drink) a veritable storm has blown up over comments on Labour Home made by John Wiseman, PPC for Westmorland. John always speaks from the heart but sometimes the heart is not a good place to speak from as it can get you into trouble.
Hence John has found his plea to Gordon Brown over the tax issue lifted to Iain Dale and Guido - where of course he's got a barrage of abuse from right-wingers. Not nice. And may I say not deserved.
Maybe John should have chosen his words more carefully but the fact of the matter is that Gordon Brown HAS "had it" unless he realises the morass of despair his insistence on being even more right-wing than Blair is causing.
How dare David Miliband, someone brought up in a wealthy family and with millions in the bank, lecture us to unite behind a Leader who wasn't even elected by the Party. It's time to tell it like it is, stand up for the Labour Party, and stop defending the indefensible. At tomorrow night's PLP meeting I hope that message is put across loud and clear. This just cannot go on.

Good.....

John Wiseman speak da truth said...

I really don't know how any decent person can support a party of war mongers that close post offices and give billions to bankers who have been robbing their customers for years.
Susan get a life!

David Miliband did not grow up in a wealthy household: he grew up the son of a moderately famous leftwing academic whose parents had to flee Europe in the thirties because of their religion (Jewish). Can I suggest you get your facts right on this rather emotive issue before you throw accusations around about people's backgrounds?

Yeah, I'm a bit dubious about the millions in the bank suggestion, too.

Not especially well informed on the matter, though.

As a member of the government, you can't really be surprised that Miliband is asking us to support the Prime Minister, he's hardly going to say "don't support Brown, back me for leader instead".

At least, he's not going to say that in public.

Susan, some of the criticism has to be levelled at the PLP, they were largely silent when the 10% tax removal was announced as NL were riding high in the polls, nothing like the possibiulity of losing your seat to make an MP more outspoken.

They are still largely silent on the welfare reforms which will see the most vulnerable in the Uk lose a damn sight more even than those affected by the 10% tax band removal , etc.

OK, Miliband is not nor ever has been at the sharp end of low incomes.....sorry to get personal but it's true.

You should work for the Daily Mail. Same disregard for truth and evidence. Same hatred for a Labour party that wins elections.

Actually, anonymous, a Labour Party that at the last election got less votes than we did in 1987. Yes, maybe abstenstionism is a solid foundation for democratic politics... but I don't think so.

For what it's worth, Miliband may not be as wealthy as many of the super-rich over whom New Labour fawn so shamelessly, but he's had a reasonably comfortable upbringing. And, on an instinctive level, the words "never really had a proper job" do spring to mind when watching him.

I trust the anonymous leadership loyalists are having a better time of it defending Labour on this issue when out leafleting than I am.

I have no time for those in the Labour Party who have brought it to its knees and betrayed its founding principles.
But I do not "hate" the Milibands I'm sure they are sincere in what they believe ie New Labour orthodoxy - that does not give them the right to lecture the poor on Party unity.Nor has either the nackground or work experience to be qualified to comment on the 10p tax rate cut. As for the evidence well the Miliband family is pretty wealthy, if not super-rich.

The problem was that I take it the MP's Labour and Tory knew about scrapping the 10p tax last year

no one spoke up or told us about it

not even our Left MP's (or did I miss that)

I really would expect MP's to be more on the ball

I know this is causing us great damage and being used by the Tories
who
a) refuse to say they will support its reintroduction

b) Don't give a dam about the working class anyway

Yes we should help families and yes it was great that we cut tax down to 20% from 22% but we cannot hit hard working single men and women struggling on Low Pay

Make the Rich Pay

Smash the Toffs

Of course we should scrap the 10p tax rate

and move all those on it out of paying tax at all and make the rich pay more

Now thats socialism Mr Brown

Yeah, and I wonder if Ralph Miliband is spinning in his grave wondering how his sons could turn out so right-wing....

You did miss it anon
Have a look at John McDonnells blog when the budget was announced last year he highlighted the 10p fiasco and said how this was gonna affect the lowest paid.

He has everhh I beleive he did in the nicest possible way on channel 4 news on Monday)

As usual Brown refused to listen to the left.

marshajane said...

for some reason that didn't come out properly on the comment

It was meant to read he has every right to say I told you so which I believe he did.

Also I remember the fuss the let made about it last year so much so that we were attacked for scaremongoring and then the Lib Dems jumped on the bandwagon and had some press coverage condemning it.

Anon you obviously pay a lot of attention.

My only prob with John was his campaign became the longest shopping list ever

And not keen on some of his friends

however, chuffed he raised it at the time (just sorry we all missed it)

we should have been making the running on this ....why was it left to the right wing press to make the running

so we maybe we should look in the Mirror...we were nodoubt campaigning on something else

we need to priorities more

But congrats to John
